DIY booking vs Package Holiday?

There is no right or wrong answer as to which is the best. Like with everything in life, everyone will have an opinion and different methods will best suit different people.
It is like wondering whether it is better to clean your own house or hire a cleaner? Wash your own car or go to the car wash? Package holidays can work out good value when you are traveling to popular beach resorts, for a standard 7, 10 or 14 night holiday, especially if you are someone who needs to add checked bags and reserve seats. The package price will include a checked bag, transfers, and the ease of having someone do it all for you. Remember, agents add on commission. They may have access to a bargain which means it is worth booking with them but always shop around. You wouldn’t buy the first car you saw, or the first house you visited, so have a look around at all of the potential options, both package and DIY. Our website makes DIY travel really simple and will save you a lot of time. Use our Start your Journey feature to get started.

DIY holidays are often much cheaper, especially if you are someone who can travel light and without the need for assistance. Have a read of this blog post for tips on how you can travel with less. Budget airlines often have flights for under £50pp, this is fantastic if you can travel with the basics but will quickly jump up as you add checked luggage and seat reservations. We love DIY travel as it opens up a whole new world of possibilities. You can do multi destination trips, stay in lesser known places, go away for a couple of nights or a whole month and bag some absolute bargains. We have often travelled for less than £100pp with flights and our hotel! You can still book your standard pool hotels with all inclusive board this way, just always compare the price to a package deal to make sure you get the best value for money. Our website is aimed at making DIY bookings that little bit easier for you.

All Inclusive or Self Catering?

This really comes down to what sort of holiday you are looking for. All Inclusive is great in that it removes any food related decision making from your holiday. If you are anything like us, making a decision as to where to eat can take a while. All Inclusive makes it easier to predict what the entire trip will cost. When you book an all inclusive package holiday, everything is pretty much covered, so extra spending isn’t essential. Bear in mind that if you don’t plan to stay around the hotel all day, it can end up being a pricey option if you don’t take full advantage of it. Breakfast included or Half board are alternatives that might work out better value for you in this situation.

Self catering means you have a little kitchen area to prepare your own meals. This is a really great way to travel on a really tight budget. We do this often and will spend around £60 on a food shop at the start of the week which covers most of our meals for a 7 night trip. By making your own meals you can save a lot of money compared to eating out. We love to try local food when in a new destination so will usually eat out at a restaurant for one meal a day (either lunch or dinner) and then prepare the rest ourselves. We find this gives us the best of both worlds but saves a ton of money.
