Considering cheap places to go on holiday this year? Having a plan and tracking prices is essential if you are going to bag the best possible prices. It is often much better to plan your trip in advance to make the most of the lowest prices and early bird deals, especially if you want to travel in the school holidays. With DIY bookings (booking flights and hotel separately) we advise looking at flights around 4-6 months ahead of the chosen travel period. Use our ‘Start your Journey’ feature to set a budget and find the best flight and hotel combinations.
With package holidays it is often best to book as early as possible, taking full advantage of flexible payment options. Jet2holidays are our preferred package provider given their highly rated, reliable service – they allow you to pay a small deposit and break the holiday cost up into monthly payments making it more affordable for many.

Check out our some of our favourite cheap places to go on holiday!

Algarve, Portugal

First on our list is the southern gem of Portugal. This beautiful coastal destination is located on the Atlantic Ocean, the influence of which you will be able to see in every aspect of Portuguese culture. The Algarve is one of the best cheap holiday destinations, famous for its tasty seafood and golden beaches. The sun shines all year round, making it a great holiday choice outside of the summer months when prices drop providing some amazing value trips.

You might find it surprising that despite being such a popular and beautiful year round destination, holidaying in the Algarve can be very affordable. The tourist season reaches its peak from July through August when the weather is scorching hot. April to June and September to November offer lovely weather, less crowds and most importantly, much cheaper prices.

The 200km of coastline and over 100 beaches allow you to easily visit a different place every day during your stay. Albufeira is a great town to base yourself in out of season, not too far from the airport and with a vibrant night life even in the cooler months. Stay by the old town for a more laid back evening scene, or head to the Oura Strip if you want to party all night. Portimão and Alvor offer a more laid back holiday, with their quaint harbours, cobbled streets and beautiful beaches. Lagos is one of my favourite towns, surrounded by old castle walls it has a great night scene, lots of hostels making it a great choice if you wish to travel solo, it has some great beaches and breathtaking coastal walks.

Burgas, Bulgaria

Another great option on our list of cheap places to go on holiday is Bulgaria, more specifically, the coastal region of Burgas. This city is well-known for its expansive beach resort “Sunny Beach”, which is a true budget friendly delight on the Black Sea coast. With a lively night life and low prices, it is a great option for anyone wanting to get away on a budget.

Sunny Beach is not the only thing to enjoy while in Burgas. We wholeheartedly recommend you pay a visit to the city’s Sea Garden – a 5km park area perfect for taking long walks, getting active and escaping the direct sun for an afternoon. You could also stop by the Burgas Old Town, where you can explore the city’s unique architecture and cultural monuments.

When it comes to food, we promise Bulgaria will not disappoint. With tons of great restaurants and street food spots you wont struggle to find some great food on a budget. They offer a wide variety of traditional and international food and drinks for really cheap prices.

Besides the warm sun that shines throughout much of the year, Burgas is also one of the best cheap holiday destinations famous for its lively nightlife! The variety of bars and clubs will keep you entertained during your whole stay if this is the type of vacation you’re looking for.

Antalya, Turkey

Turkey is another cheap destination that you should consider visiting if you want to spend your summer holiday on a budget. Although Turkey has several seaside towns, the Antalya Coast is the most popular amongst them – and for good reason!

This city is located on the Mediterranean coast and offers plenty of deluxe all inclusive resorts for a surprisingly low price. The climate in Antalya is characterised by dry, hot summers, so expect to get perfectly tanned during your stay. Since the warm weather lasts well passed the summer, don’t be surprised that the tourist season here lasts from April through to October. The southern position of this region means you can enjoy a hot, cheap holiday outside of the peak summer months.

The all-inclusive resorts provide exceptional services and distinctive foods, all for an amazing price. The lively streets, colourful gift shops, and unique restaurants and bars are more than enough reasons to visit Antalya, Turkey – a great country to visit on your next holiday.

Corfu, Greece

Characterised by a warm, Mediterranean climate, gorgeous islands, and turquoise sea, Greece has become a widely popular holiday destination, especially in recent years.

The atmosphere here is definitely a relaxing one, especially when compared to some other islands in the country. If you are looking for great nightlife however don’t be put off, the southern town of Kavos is tucked away from the rest of the island and offers a lively strip of bars and clubs that are in full swing between June and September. A really great place for a budget party holiday.

Corfu is a great place to enjoy the warm waters, white-sanded beaches, and the tasty traditional Greek dishes. For the more adventurous, there are plenty of historical locations to explore, including the Achilleon, Kassiopi, Angelokastro, Corfu Town and many more.

Much of the island closes out of season, so if you want a lively trip with everything open and in full swing, visit between May and September. We recently visited out of season in March/April and loved exploring the island without the tourist crowds, but the resorts geared towards tourists were all closed. Have a read of our Corfu blog post here to better understand the island. Paleokastritsa is by far the most beautiful area of the island with aquamarine water and fantastic natural surroundings. The area is pretty much closed down out of season, but the aquarium and a few local tavernas remain open. Sidari is a great option in the north of the island for a lively beach break with lots of bars and restaurants, plus the famous Canal D’Amour.

Tenerife, Spain

The tropical island of Tenerife is the last on our list of cheap places to go on holiday. The largest island of the Canary archipelago is famous for its volcanic beaches, diverse sea life, lush vegetation, and above all else, the fact that you can experience all of this on a budget!

Explore the vibrant nature, indulge in the delicious local food or simply sunbathe on the fine-sand beaches. This is one of the best locations to go on holiday if you are looking for a destination with sun during the winter months, accessible without breaking the bank!

To make the most of your holiday, we advise you to visit Tenerife during the spring months of March, April and May, or later in the year during October – December. You’ll still be able to enjoy the pleasant sub-tropical weather, and you’ll successfully escape the huge crowds (and the higher costs). The island is home to Siam Park – regularly voted the best waterpark in the world!
